Orange Cake

Orange cake – Recipe

Orange cake is easy to make, because the ingredients can just mixed together in a mixer-if you have one. Then stir an icing or melted chocolate or something that can be poured over when the cake is cold.

You’ll need the following for the cake:

  • 200 g baking margarine – room temperature
  • 200 g sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 200 g flour
  • 2 tsp. torn peeled skin of orange
  • 3 tablespoons orange juice
  • 2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 100 g flour cream or 150 g dark chocolate
  • 1 handful of chopped nuts or almonds

Procedure

  1. Turn on the oven at 175 ° C.
  2. Bring the baking margarine, sugar and vanilla sugar in a bowl and stir all together.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time and stir thoroughly in each adding.
  4. Stir the flour in – start at low speed then gradually increasing until you achieve a lump free dough
  5. Add orange peel, and juice and lemon juice onto the dough and stir.
  6. Pour the insides of the bowl upside down on a lubricated or coated baking paper or a slip of light material.
  7. Placed it on the oven for approx. 1 hour. Insert a meat pin, or a knitting stick into the cake to find out if it the innermost part of the cake is cook.
  8. Let the cake cool a bit before taking it out of the mold.
  9. Stir an icing of flour and 1 tbsp. water – add more water if necessary. Or melt the chocolate.
  10. Pour the icing or melted chocolate on top of the cold cake. Sprinkle, if necessary, with chopped nuts.

You may wonder why there is no baking soda on the ingredients. However, in this case, it’s the egg that do the work.

If you prefer lemon, then I highly recommend you to experiment with homemade lemon juice.

Sponge orange cake

You can also make an orange cake by making a sponge cake with orange rind and juice. You can achieve every possible kind of variations for sponge cakes like cocoa marble cake, cocktail cherries in an old-fashioned “fine” sand cake, apples in the apple pie or perhaps pieces of chocolate or marzipan.

A sponge cake is actually just named for its yellowish sand color – no dramatic stories about the old days and a cracking sound between the teeth or anything else. Quite simply a cake consisting of flour, margarine, sugar and baking soda – instead of eggs – which is sand colored.

Bon appetite!
