It's so purely traditional and original this recipe. But you can also make brændende kærlighed with sausages - is something I have heard, but not tried - also without meat, without mashed potatoes, low in fat or with fish. But here you get the traditional brændende kærlighed recipe.
Peel the potatoes, cut them into smaller pieces, and cook them tender.
Meanwhile, cut the bacon into small cubes.
Peel the onions and cut them into rings.
Fry the bacon on a dry pan until crisp.
Take them out of the pan and fry the onion rings in the remaining fat until they have golden color.
Put the bacon back in the pan, add 50 g butter (can be omitted) and let it melt over low heat.
Pour the water from the boiled potatoes, and mash them and whip them with 25 gram of butter and the milk.
Season the mash with salt and pepper.
Notes
The mashed potatoes are served with pork cubes and onion rings as well as possibly. melted butter poured over. Serve if you like with green sprinkles - chives, parsley, dill, or whatever you like - and beets.
